If you passed your car driving test (B) category after 1st January 1997 and the total maximum authorised mass combination weight of the towing vehicle and trailer exceed 3.5 tonnes then yes you do need a trailer licence.
Calculating maximum authorised mass: vehicle MAM weight+ trailer MAM weight. i.e vehicle weight
2 tonnes + trailer weight 1.5 tonnes = 3.5 tonnes ( trailer MAM must not exceed vehicle MAM)
total 3.5 tonne.
